THE CHALLENGE
EMBRACE GROWTH, INSPIRE CHANGE.

Our goal is to keep users engaged and inspired as they work towards a better future. Designed specifically for patients with eating disorders, Reflekt empowers individuals on their journey of self-discovery, providing a supportive platform that fosters personal evolution. With its intuitive interface, Reflekt also offers psychologists a seamless and insightful tool to understand and guide their patients, ultimately enhancing the therapeutic process and facilitating positive outcomes.

Our high level goals were to:
My Role
As a multi-disciplinary professional, my role in creating the app encompassed product design, user research, social media marketing, motion design, and interaction design.

I crafted the user experience, conduct research, engage with our community, added dynamic visuals, and refined interactions. With this diverse skill set, I contributed to creating a compelling app for individuals with eating disorders.
Brainstorming
Brainstorming is crucial in the design process, fostering creativity, collaboration, and innovation. It generates diverse ideas, encourages outside-the-box thinking, and leads to user-centric designs. It ignites the creative spark and propels the design process forward.
Early ideation allowed us to identify that users with allergies need transparency with ingredients and cross contaminations to feel confident when ordering food online.
Early Insights
Through interviews with 10 individuals, we sought to uncover the pain points they encountered while using mood tracking, DBT, or diary card apps, as well as their desired improvements to enhance usability. The findings revealed that:
  • Many apps within this niche have an overwhelming complexity to them.
  • Insufficient motivational factors lead to burn out and a cease of use.
  • Inadequate guidance and support negatively impacts the users experience.
  • There is a strong need for accessibility and inclusivity.
To gain a deeper understanding of these user needs and refine our product, we conducted a thorough competitive analysis. This process allowed us to confirm that many existing mood tracking, DBT, and diary card apps fell short in delivering an optimal user experience. This insight further emphasized the importance of creating a solution that truly addresses the pain points and provides a superior experience for our users.

Recovery Record

  • Overwhelming Complexity
  • Poor Navigation
  • Cluttered UI

Identifying the User Base
Identifying the target audience was a crucial milestone in our design process, enabling us to make informed decisions throughout the creation of Reflekt. Our focus was not only on developing a user-friendly platform but also on ensuring inclusivity and designing with accessibility in mind, catering to the needs of individuals who may have disabilities.
Persona
Journey maps can be a great tool to generate insight into how the user may experience a product. This journey map was created to examine each stage of the user journey, what complications the users may experience & improvement opportunities for any negative experiences.
User Journey
Information Architecture
Information architecture plays a pivotal role in the design of digital products and experiences. By organizing and structuring information in a clear and intuitive manner, it helps users navigate and make sense of complex systems. A well-designed information architecture enhances usability, reducing the cognitive effort required to find information, make decisions, and complete tasks.
High Fidelity Prototype
An early prototype iteration was created so that we could test how the product works with different users in real time as well as acquiring feedback that can later be implemented into the final design.
Early wireframes and prototype created using Figma. The prototype can be accessed HERE.
Research Methods
In the development of Reflekt, a range of research methods were employed to gain valuable insights. User interviews and surveys provided qualitative and quantitative data on user needs and preferences, while usability testing and diary studies offered direct observations of user interactions and experiences with the app.
This chart highlights the KPI findings from the conducted research.
Our main findings from this research were:
The Discovery
Through our journey in developing Reflekt, we've made a significant discovery – the power of community. We found that fostering a supportive and connected community within the app is paramount to its success and user engagement.
Diving Deeper
Individuals with eating disorders benefit immensely from the shared experiences, empathy, and encouragement of others who can truly understand their challenges. By providing a platform where users can connect, share insights, and offer support, we empower them to build meaningful connections, feel less alone, and gain inspiration on their path towards healing and recovery.

This sense of community not only enhances the app's effectiveness but also reinforces the belief that no one is alone in their journey towards a better future.
The Design
In designing Reflekt, our primary focus was to create a user experience that feels calm and reassuring. Every design decision was carefully made with this intention in mind.

We chose a soothing color palette with soft blues and neutrals, aiming to instill a sense of tranquility and emotional stability. The typography and visual elements were selected to evoke a feeling of clarity and comfort.

We aimed to create a visually balanced and harmonious interface that promotes a sense of calmness and instills confidence in users as they embark on their journey of self-reflection and personal growth.

Marketing Strategy
In the marketing of Reflekt, our unwavering focus is on creating a positive and supportive experience for our vulnerable user base. We prioritize raising awareness and promoting the app's benefits to individuals who can benefit from its features, with a deep commitment to their well-being and empowerment over any monetary gain.
The App
While designing Reflekt, we strived to create a visually appealing and user-centric experience, adhering to the principles of user experience design. Every detail was meticulously crafted to ensure intuitive navigation, seamless interactions, and a cohesive visual aesthetic.
